Inhale/Exhale: Learning to Breathe the Psalms

Singing Lessons

Lance Odegard, with Elli Gillen and Shari-Anne Vis (July 11, 2010)

Texts: Psalm 98, Psalm 148, Revelation 5

In this exploration of Psalm 98, we notice that all creatures are summoned to the work of praising God. We see that praise has as much (or perhaps more) to do with paying attention than paying compliments. Stories by Elli and Shari-Anne also help us to realize this in a fuller sense.

I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good

Nelson Boschman (July 4, 2010)

Text: Psalm 13

For our second week in the Psalms, we decided to look at one of the most well-known 'personal lament' psalms. Through this honest prayer, we are given permission to ask questions and bring our petitions before God, and to renew our trust in his unfailing love. Our gathering was structured, like the psalm itself, in three sections: Questioning God, Petitioning God, Trusting God. The sermon was delivered in three parts as well.
